Create a Piwik Campaign

To install this tracking, you can utilize click-tracking so that we can see how many clicks a particular graphic link or hyperlink received. We can do this by replacing the existing URL in the hyperlink with one that has an analytics tracker built in. In order to get this tracking link, we generated new links for these pages using a URL builder so that Piwik will track every time it is engaged.

Piwik makes a tool for this available online.

  1. Copy the link out of the Graphic Links Module (or Page) and enter it into the URL builder
    • Note: Make sure to use your custom domain, not the production domain.
  2. Navigate to Piwik URL builder
  3. Fill in required Step 1 fieldsStep_1.png
    • Website URL: add a URL (required)
      • Note: When a Campaign URL has a query string in the original URL then the for the campaign string must be replaced with a &.
        • Example:
          • Before: http://site.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=772?fbclid=IwAR2N_SxbAAGZrKN_yMEwisr_hC_DZt5Bpz1H-0mLVJwOkEVJZp4s1scOXQ8
          • After: http://site.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=772&fbclid=IwAR2N_SxbAAGZrKN_yMEwisr_hC_DZt5Bpz1H-0mLVJwOkEVJZp4s1scOXQ8
    • Campaign Name: enter the campaign name (required)
      • Note: Keep Names and Campaign Keywords to one word only as spaces will be represented as "%20" and can cause tracking problems when converted into ASP links.
  4. Select Generate URL
  5. Copy and paste the generated URL into link field in the Graphic Links widget or hyperlink manager

Note: Generated data will display in your Piwik log in in the next 24 to 48 hours. This delay is due to data compilation.

Why do some documents in the document center have click results in the Actions > Pages panel, and others do not? Do I have to set up a campaign in order to see how many times a particular document in the doc center was viewed from our website?
