Label Abbreviations in the Editor Widget

Overview

To meet the WCAG 3.1.4 Abbreviations requirement to make page content more accessible to people with disabilities, abbreviations should be labeled using HTML <abbr> and spell out the abbreviation on the first occurrence.

Instructions

  1. Navigate to the page with abbreviated text
  2. Ensure that Live Edit Is On

  3. Click inside the Editor Widget

  4. Identify the text that is an abbreviation and highlight on the non-code side

  5. Select the Abbreviation Tool 
    abbreviation_tool.png
  6. Click into the Code View
    code_view.png
  7. Ensure that the code reads <abbr> markings to alert users that an abbreviation is being used
    abbr.png
  8. Click the Green Checkmark to exit the editor
    green_checkmark.png
  9. Click Save at the top of the page
    save_page.png
